October is one of my favorite times in the gardens,
Butterflies are everywhere and plentiful. The summer flowers are still in bloom
and they seem to enjoy the cooler days as much as I do. The antique roses have
started to bloom again with rich colors thanks to the cooler temperatures. We
have many varieties of fall blooming azaleas which are also plentiful this
month too.
October and September are our driest months, and the volunteers have been busy watering. And the swamp is low. The Staff have been busy putting up Halloween decorations for the Halloween in the Swamp October 17-19 this year which will be on a full moon.
Fall wildflowers and native grasses are reaching their peak display. We have several species of goldenrod, asters, boneset, lobelia and more.
